FAQ

A
Prestressed steel strands are stranded steel cables composed of 2, 3, 7, or 19 high-strength steel wires, and are stress-relieved (stabilized), suitable for prestressed concrete and similar applications. The main characteristics of prestressed steel strands are high strength and good relaxation performance, and they are relatively straight when deployed. Common tensile strength grades are 1860 MPa, and there are also strength grades such as 1720, 1770, 1960, 2000, 2160, 2230, and 2360 MPa. This steel also has high yield strength.

Prestressed steel strands are mainly made of cold-drawn high-carbon steel, with a small amount of phosphate and lubricant residue on the surface. When the strength is particularly high (such as 2300 MPa), alloying elements such as chromium need to be added. The zinc-plated high-strength product can improve the silicon content. Some carbon steel prestressed steel strands have coatings on their surface, such as zinc, zinc-aluminum alloy, zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy, epoxy resin, anticorrosive grease, polyester, and high-density polyethylene sheath. Stainless steel can also be used to make prestressed steel strands, using high-strength duplex stainless steel.

Strand wire is mainly used for lifting projects, and also for nuclear power projects. 19-wire large diameter strand wire is often used for mine roadway support anchor cables. Unbonded prestressing strand wire is often used for building floor slabs and some geotechnical anchor cables. Galvanized strand wire is often used for bridge tie rods, cables and external prestressing projects. Epoxy coated strand wire has similar uses to galvanized prestressing strand wire and is suitable for projects with high durability requirements.
